What to do after failed IVF attempts?
Unfortunately, not every IVF attempt ends in pregnancy, so our fertility specialists, one way or another, have to answer the question: why did it fail? There can be many reasons, but today we will discuss the main ones.
So, the success of any ART programme depends on two important factors:
– the quality of the embryo
– the condition of the endometrium.
Modern medicine can improve and enhance each of them.
Endometrium
In the protocol, it is possible to check the endometrium in advance for inflammatory processes, which can also interfere with normal implantation. For this, IHC (immunohistochemistry) is performed. Doctors use the ERA test to accurately calculate the “implantation window” – the most favourable time for embryo transfer. Embryo transfer during the "implantation window" significantly increases the chances of success.
Embryo
When it comes to the quality of the embryo, it directly depends on the quality of the germ cells. During the culture phase, embryologists can observe the growth and development of the embryos, and this information is also helpful during the selection phase.
PGT is the most reliable method for selecting a healthy embryo. Preimplantation genetic testing is carried out before the embryo is transferred into the uterus and allows chromosomal abnormalities detection.
After a failed protocol, the task of each fertility specialist is to investigate the case and reveal possible reasons for failure to eliminate them during the next attempt.
