The main stages of IVF

The IVF protocol consists of several milestone stages. Let's talk about each of them in more detail.
Stage 1
The start of hormonal therapy for ovulation induction. Medicinal drugs allow for obtaining a greater number of eggs (only one matures in the natural cycle, less often two). For stimulation, the doctor may prescribe drugs in various forms - pills or injections.
Within the ovulation induction stage, several ultrasounds are performed to monitor the growth of follicles.
Stage 2
On the right day, a follicle puncture is scheduled. This is a procedure in which the doctor removes follicles from the ovaries. The procedure is completely painless, as it is performed under general or local anesthesia. After the puncture, the fertility specialist will give you a sick leave.
Stage 3
Sperm delivery and processing. On the day of the puncture, the husband delivers the ejaculate to the clinic for subsequent fertilization.
Stage 4
After the cells are transferred to the laboratory, embryologists process them and carry out fertilization.
Stage 5
Cultivation of embryos. The resulting embryos are cultured in the laboratory from 3 to 5 (rarely 7) days.
Stage 6
The embryo transfer to the uterine cavity. The most beautiful and promising embryo is chosen for transfer to the uterine cavity. One to two embryos are transferred to the uterus. To transfer two of them, indications are needed, more often fertility specialists opt for the transfer of one embryo to avoid possible complications associated with multiple pregnancy.
Stage 7
Hormonal support for the luteal phase. The fertility specialist will prescribe progesterone preparations for successful implantation and support of pregnancy.
The protocol is completed! After 10-14 days, you can do a pregnancy test or take a blood test for hCG.
