IVF programme participants

Many couples associate an IVF programme with only one doctor – a fertility specialist, but this is a big misconception. Actually, a huge team of specialists will be working with you. And today, we will tell you more about the role of each of them.

A fertility specialist

This is a doctor who will coordinate the entire IVF programme. He studies your medical history, prescribes additional examinations to identify the cause of infertility, and selects a treatment. It is a fertility specialist who prescribes the ovulation stimulation scheme, monitors the growth of follicles by ultrasound, and performs puncture and embryo transfer. You will meet with this doctor in the programme framework much more often than with others.

A urologist-andrologist

This doctor will entirely control the spouse's examination and treatment (if necessary) within the IVF programme. The spouse will have to undergo a mandatory consultation with a urologist (with swab sampling) and a spermogram. Based on the results of these tests, the doctor will already be able to draw conclusions and, if necessary, prescribe treatment or additional examinations.

An embryologist

This specialist gets in gear at the second stage of IVF. Embryologists process the resulting male and female cells, fertilize and culture the embryos. Also, if necessary, embryologists perform a biopsy (in order to do a PGS), cryopreserve and thaw germ cells and embryos. Based on the cultivation results, embryologists evaluate the quality of the resulting embryos, choose the best one for transfer to the uterine cavity and prepare it for transfer.

A geneticist

A couple may require genetic counselling for cause (for example, if a man and a woman have genetic diseases in their family, one is a carrier or the family already has a child with a genetic pathology). Also, consultation is necessary for a PGS (preimplantation genetic screening) of embryos. After receiving the test results, a mandatory consultation with a geneticist is required to select the best embryos for transfer.

A psychologist

Many couples underestimate the psychological readiness for the IVF programme, but it is essential. A lot depends on your mood, balance, and inner state. You will be surprised, but this is no less important than the test results and strict adherence to all doctor's prescriptions. And if you feel severe anxiety, doubt your decision or cannot find answers to important questions, you can seek help from an EVACLINIC IVF perinatal psychologist.

Medical coordinators

In the IVF programme, you will also have assistants – the medical coordinators of our clinic. They will help you choose the right IVF programme, find a convenient time for an appointment with a doctor, remind you of your upcoming visit and always answer any of your questions.
