Endometriosis is a rather common disease that often causes infertility. But in this case, an IVF protocol can help.
Endometriosis is a disease in which the tissue lining of the uterus (endometrium) grows outside of it and leads to some unpleasant symptoms. Endometriosis reduces the chances of natural conception in several ways at once:
Changes in the endometrium structure (with endometriosis, the mucous membrane becomes excessively thick and loose, which prevents the egg from implanting successfully).
Malfunction of the reproductive system (growing outside of the uterus, the endometrium can lead to the formation of endometriotic ovarian cysts).
The appearance of adhesions (with endometriosis, the fallopian tubes and cervical canal are often blocked by endometrium; this interferes with the normal process of conception).
Will IVF work if you have endometriosis? Most often yes, but it all depends on the degree and localization of endometriosis. Against the background of endometriosis, IVF usually goes along with downregulation of own hormonal levels (to cease the spread of endometriosis). For stimulation, the fertility specialist chooses a protocol in accordance with the hormonal background and ovarian reserve.
