Surgical treatment of infertility
Couples unable to have children often think that in vitro fertilization is their only option. Yes, IVF is a modern and effective way to overcome infertility, but sometimes you can do without it. If the cause is easily eliminated, then medical treatment will be sufficient. If the situation is more complicated, you should not despair either because modern methods of surgical treatment of infertility can most cases eliminate the cause of infertility.
If, after the examination, it becomes clear that the cause of infertility lies precisely in the female body, then surgeons can offer two options to help correct the situation and become a mother. The first one is hysteroscopy. This procedure can be both diagnostic and turn into an operation. With its help, the doctor examines the state of the endometrium – the mucous membrane of the inner lining of the uterus. If neoplasms are found there, they can be cut out immediately. The state of the endometrium plays a crucial role in the first stage of pregnancy since the possibility of embryo attachment to the uterus depends on it. Hysteroscopy is performed under anaesthesia but does not require any incisions or punctures. The doctor will expand the uterus, examine the mucosa condition, and remove neoplasms if necessary.
Laparoscopy is a second option for surgical interference. It is a more complex modern procedure that allows you to eliminate infertility. With this operation, the doctor examines the condition of the fallopian tubes and ovaries. It can cut out endometrial overgrowth and remove adhesions or cysts. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and requires three punctures, with the help of which the surgeon examines the internal organs. In rare cases, doctors will have to make an incision. Then, the operation is called a laparotomy.
