Causes of miscarriage
Unfortunately, successful egg fertilization and embryo quality do not guarantee that the pregnancy will go well. Even the state-of-the-art technologies and specialists’ knowledge do not insure against premature termination of pregnancy – according to statistics, from 15 to 27 per cent of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. It is customary to distinguish between two types of such pathologies. If the pregnancy is interrupted before the 22nd week, then this situation is called a miscarriage – the embryo dies. If the termination of pregnancy occurred after the 22nd week, then experts already define this as a premature birth. The baby has a chance to survive, even being born immature.
Experts identify the main causes of miscarriage as follows.
- Defects of the embryo at the genetic level.According to statistics, half of all abortions are due to fetal chromosomal abnormalities. It stops developing or does it wrong, which leads to miscarriages.
- Diseases of the endocrine system.Diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome, thyroid disorders – each such diagnosis increases the chances of an unfavourable termination of pregnancy.
- Pathologies and abnormal development of genital organs which lead to a change in the anatomy. These can be injuries or changes in the uterus, sex infantilism (delayed reproductive system development) and other problems.
- Infectious diseases of the vagina. This organ contains a significant number of bacteria, most of which are needed for the reproductive system functioning. When infections and microbes enter the vagina, the environment becomes dangerous for embryo development.
- Cases of miscarriage in women with blood coagulability problems are widespread. Thrombophilia and other diseases cause miscarriages or early births.
- Immune system pathologies are also considered the cause of problems with bearing a child.
It is essential to establish the cause of spontaneous abortion, as this allows, in most cases, to make the next attempt to be successful.
